- Permission (DA) has been granted to build a retreat complex in eight stages: A meditation hall, dining room, kitchen, teacher’s cottage, and accommodation units for 44 meditators.
- The first and second stages of the project are completed: a multipurpose hall, pagoda, and two-bedroom disabled unit with an en suite.
- The third stage of the Retreat Complex involves building a six-bedroom unit, double to a room, which will accommodate twelve meditators.
- Unfortunately, the accommodation building (above) is on hold due to a shortage of funds, rising costs, and the new building code requirements. While the unit is at the lockup stage, we can restart the ongoing residential retreats as soon as funds are available to finish it.
- The funds needed to complete the double-room accommodation unit, including two external bathhouses and the repair of the access road, are $AUS 150,000.
- We offer donors this unique opportunity to make ‘merit’ by contributing to this project. Your donation will benefit generations of meditators who come to practice Satipatthana Vipassana Meditation at Bodhi Tree Monastery.

Shwedagon Pagoda Replica Dedication Ceremony
What we’ve been doing and have done . . .
- Over the years, we’ve been busy planting approximately 10,00 rainforest trees, koala food trees, and fruit and nut orchards, which are flourishing!
- Completely renovated the old Retreat House.
- The water system has been rebuilt with extra storage tanks and a new pumping system.
- Venerable Sayadaw U Janaka dedicated the Bodhi Tree Retreat Centre as a Satipatthana Vipassana Retreat Centre.
- The Dedication Ceremony of the Shwedagon Pagoda Replica.
- Consecrated the Sima boundary, which allows us to conduct onsite ordinations and finish the Sima Hall build.
- We’ve completed the two-bedroom disabled accommodation unit with en suite and wheelchair access.
- We have been conducting a series of Mindfulness Meditation Workshops at the end of most months, which are on hold for the time being until the build is finished.
- Working on the third stage of the retreat complex – a six-room accommodation unit.
- Conducting Well-Being in Nature Days at Bodhi Tree with guided meditative walks.

Vietnamese Community Fundraiser
Sydney’s Vietnamese Buddhist community members joined us for a Bodhi Tree fundraising evening in 2017. The night was very successful, and the proceeds helped us start building our new retreat complex.
Ven. Pannyavaro and the Bodhi Tree Retreat Centre team thank all the volunteers who organised the night and the Vietnamese community for their generous support.
2024 – is our 19th Year at Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery & Vipassana Retreat Centre
